Buceo Norte receives recognition SSI Classified Diving Center. This means being able to offer our diving services to many more people, because for us the #conscious diving has no limits.

Thanks to our training as diving and biology professionals, we developed our brand “Conscious Diving” with the aim of developing a community of highly trained divers in diving and freediving, and committed to the conservation of the marine environment, since we believe that it is extremely important to join forces to raise awareness about the value of marine species and ecosystems, so that the more we are, the better. But we could not serve everyone. We found a barrier, and that is that due to the demands of this sport and the regulations that govern it, we could not offer our services to people with reduced mobility or sensory disabilities.

In this sense, we found that in order to be able to assist people with special physical abilities in diving, we needed an official qualification, and we trained as instructors certified by Scuba School International (SSI) to teach diving education programs for both people with special abilities and for the companions who assist them in diving practice.

What does it mean that Buceo Norte is a Classified Diving Center?

Our instructors have received specific training to carry out dives or teach diving courses adapted to people with different levels of mobility or sensory diversity, according to their personal needs.

Who can take the Classified Diving course?

Any person aged 12 or over, with reduced mobility or sensory disorders, with prior specific medical authorisation to practice diving with self-contained breathing equipment.

Our idea is not limited to offering diving services to physically disabled people, but to creating a network of qualified collaborators to assist them as qualified companions in their diving, an essential requirement that will make it possible for them to join our dives any day, the only necessary requirement being to have the certification corresponding to the dive. The companions, in addition to being certified divers, must have the specific qualifications of “Rescue Diver” and “Classified Buddy”.

What certification does a Classified Diver obtain?

Depending on the level of assistance required in the water by the student to perform the skills of the SSI Open Water Diver program, he or she may be certified as a Classified Diver Level 1, 2, or 3 (from least to most dependent). Thus, certified Level 1 students must always dive accompanied by a Classified Dive Buddy, while Level 2 students must be accompanied by two Classified Dive Buddies or Level 3 students must be accompanied by two Classified Dive Buddies plus a Classified Dive Professional.

Who can obtain the Classified Dive Buddy certification?

Any diver aged 18 or older, with SSI Stress & Rescue certification (or equivalent) and official CPR and First Aid certification (also available through SSI's React Right program).

What are the benefits of becoming certified as a Classified Dive Buddy at Buceo Norte?

Being a Classified Dive Buddy not only prepares you to assist and accompany people who really need it, but also gives you the opportunity to collaborate with us both in courses and in dives. In addition, the combination of all these specialties will give you the training and confidence necessary to increase your safety as a diver and your ability to help other people in the most demanding situations.

But it doesn't end here. If you become certified as a qualified diving buddy and collaborate as such in any of our services, you will be able to benefit from some discounts and gifts exclusive to you, thus helping you achieve your goals as a diver whenever possible.

If you want to know more about any of these adapted diving programs, do not hesitate to contact us, we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
