The Open Water Diver (OWD) is the first diving course where you will learn everything you need to be able to Diving anywhere in the world.
Once you have completed the course you will obtain an international certification that accredits you as an autonomous diver.

What is the diving course like?
The diving course is divided into 2 parts, a theoretical and another practice.
The theory is on-line and you can do it from home, at your own pace, with your computer, phone mobile or tablet.
The part Practice is face-to-face and you can start it after finishing the theory.
What is online theory like?
You can start with the theory whenever you want from your home, traveling or at work.
It's very simple, you just have to read and complete all the review tests in the digital manual.
To access the manual it is necessary register and create an account in the MySSI app.
At the end of all the review tests you will have to do a in-person theoretical exam of 50 questions, being able to fail 10.

The practices are divided into three days where you will learn everything you need to dive safely.
FIRST DAY – POOL
General review of theory and multiple choice test.
1st practical dive in the pool / 40-45 min
Break and comments / 10 -15 min
2nd practical dive in the pool / 40-45min
SECOND DAY – SEA
1st practical dive in the sea / 40-45 min
Break and comments / 45-50 min

What is the price of the diving course?
Theory Price » 90 euros
You can buy now only the theory online, do it at your own pace and without rushing.
When you finish the theory you can schedule your practical classes.
Price of all practices » 300 euros
Payment for practical classes is made directly at Buceo Norte, before beginning aquatic activities.
Why do you need the MySSI app?
MySSI is the name of the mobile application where you will have your diving qualifications registered.
It is also the application that you will use to carry out the training theoretical.
It is important that when you register in MySSI you select North Diving as training center to be able to do your training.
At the end of the course you will use it to record your dives, your team and carry all your data in a single app.

Where is the diving course taught?
On Sardina Beach, Gáldar
Our diving centre is located in the fishing district of Sardina in Gáldar, in the northwest of Gran Canaria.
The practical dives of the course take place in Sardina Bay, one of the most important diving spots in the Canary Islands.
How long does it take to complete the diving course?
Minimum 3 days
To complete the entire training you need at least 3 days of practices.
The days can be consecutive, starting on a Friday and ending on Sunday for example.
Although it is common to divide the three practical days into two weekends.
But it is essential to have the theory previously finished.
What does the diving course include?
All inclusive
The course includes everything you need from start to finish.
Includes access to all digital teaching materials, exam fees, complete diving equipment, insurance, access to the pool, water and fruit.
Are there any prerequisites?
Age
The minimum age to take the course is 10 years old.
Health status
It is necessary fill out a health questionnaire to confirm that you are eligible to take the course.
It will be essential before starting with the practical classes.
Who can't dive?
Consult your doctor
If you have had or suffer from any lung disease or problems of heart consult your doctor.
You should also consult your doctor if you have had any ear, nose, lung or heart surgery.
We recommend that you complete the questionnaire to find out if you need a prior medical check-up.
Pregnancy
Women Pregnant women cannot diving, regardless of gestation period.
Do I need diving insurance?
Insurance for students
People who are taking the diving course They don't need insurance additional, since it is the insurance of the instructor and the diving center itself that covers the student during the training. These insurances are included in the price of the course.
Certified divers
When students complete their training they become certified divers.
All certified divers must have their own accident and liability insurance.

Is it necessary to know how to swim?
We don't ask you to be a great swimmer, but you do need to be comfortable in the water. You need to be able to stay afloat and swim a few metres.

When you complete your diving course you will be certified as an open water diver.
Let's add dives!
From that moment on you will be able to dive anywhere in the world independently to a maximum recommended depth of 18 m.
The only requirement for diving “on your own”, apart from your diving qualification, is to have special insurance for divers.
Now you can sign up for guided dives, buy or rent your diving equipment and enjoy the underwater world in complete safety.
When does my diving license expire?
Your certification as a diver never expires, it is for life.
But remember that if you spend too much time without diving, your skills will become rusty and you may lose confidence.
Still, no problem, that's what Scuba Skills Update courses are for, where in a very short time you will be able to review and practice with an instructor the skills you learned in Open Water Diver.
Can I continue to obtain diving qualifications?
Once you complete your Open Water Diver course, you can continue training to the level you want, even becoming a diving instructor.
The next level to your initial certification will be to become an Advanced Diver (Advanced Open Water Diver). But first you must register at least 24 dives.
