What do you need to know before signing up for your Dive Master course?

1 Where to take the “Divemaster” diving guide course?

The Canary Islands are a perfect place to train as a diving guide and  Gran Canaria in particular is your best option for several reasons:

1st  Diving is possible all year round.

2nd  Air communications are very frequent and inexpensive with the peninsula and other islands.

3rd  You have all the options that a provincial capital offers.

4th  About 30 minutes from the capital you will find one of the 10 best diving spots in Spain. We are talking about Sardina del Norte in Gáldar with a good number of accommodations available at affordable prices for all types of budgets.

5th  In Sardina del Norte you will find Buceo Norte, a diving centre specialising in professional training, which offers several courses a year so that you can take your “Divemaster” diving guide course whenever it suits you best.

2 At what level can I start training as an SSI Dive Master?

The answer is easy, you can start training as a “Divemaster” diving guide at any level. However, you will have to follow certain steps.

3 Steps to follow to obtain the “SSI Dive Master” diving instructor certification?

After becoming an “OWD” Diver, we recommend that you do the following diving specialties:

Navigation, Deep diving, Nitrox 40%, Night & limited visibility, Stress & Rescue + React Rigth. All these specialties are necessary for your first professional Dive Guide certification, but you will also get other advantages which I describe below.

Navigation, with this specialty you will learn the necessary techniques to always know what your current location is and where to go to reach the predefined exit.

Deep diving, in this case you will learn to plan and dive in deep dives reducing risks to a minimum.

Nitrox 40%, when you obtain this qualification you will be able to spend more time submerged during your dives and you will discover the importance of the maximum operating depth for your dives to be safe.

Night & limited visibility, thanks to this course you will discover the exciting underwater world at night.

Stress & Rescue + React Rigth, with this specialty kit you will learn the best techniques to stay calm and choose the best option in any situation that may occur in water or on land.

Now it's your turn to enjoy diving and gain experience until you have 60 dives. Don't worry about the time and money this may cost you. If you contract your training with Buceo Norte, all the dives you need will be included during your training as a "Divemaster" diving guide.

In this case, it is best to purchase a kit with the Dive Guide + Science of Diving course and, above all, choose the training location very carefully.

The course should be long enough and well structured to ensure that you can acquire the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to become a good professional.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the training center is specialized in giving courses for professionals and that it allows you to continue your training until you become an instructor.

4 Which diving agency is best for finding work now and in the future?

We firmly believe that the best agency is SSI for the following reasons:

1st  It is the agency with the greatest expansion and, therefore, has a high demand for professionals. This is the reason why SSI has previously had to launch a campaign to acquire instructors from other “crossover” agencies for free to cover this growing demand for professionals.

2. Although you can “jump” to SSI from any agency and then continue your professional career, it will be much easier if you have learned with the same system from the beginning.

3rd  It has a job board with job offers from all over the world. For example, on the day these lines were written, there were 45 job offers in Spain alone and many more around the world.

4th  Thanks to its digital platform, you will have access to the vast majority of digital courses to acquire knowledge for free.

5 Is it possible to find work with the “Divemaster” diving guide certification?

Obviously, it is easier to find work as an instructor, but as a professional diving guide you can work with certified divers guiding dives anywhere in the world.

6 How many days do I need for my Divemaster course?

Ideally, you should have at least 6 weeks of stay for in-person training and be able to devote enough time to studying before the in-person part of the course.

This can even be reduced to 5 days, but the end result would be far from the training received during a 6-week course.

7 How can I gain experience after my Divemaster course?

Ideally, after finishing the course you will have more days to reinforce your knowledge in the real world. We will be happy to help you after your course by giving you the opportunity to acquire this experience while you accompany us.

Furthermore, if we need staff, we will always give priority to professionals who have trained with us.
