The new legal regulations governing the safety conditions of diving activities does not specify that the computer diving is a device mandatory in your diving equipment.

On June 26, the BOE published a regulation regulating diving activities in both recreational and professional diving.

One of the most notable new features is the minimum equipment required for diving.

diving equipment

What diving equipment is mandatory in 2020

The publication of the BOE establishes a type of Equipment according to the diving modality that you practice.

In this case we are going to detail the Essential elements for recreational diving within the limits 40 meters deep and without scheduled decompression stops.

Dive Computer

The diving computer is not mandatory for recreational diving, but it is the only device that easily and safely groups together the 3 control devices required by the new regulation published in the BOE:

1) Depth control device.
2) Time control device.
3) Device or tables for decompression management.

If you do not carry a diving computer you will have to include in your equipment: a clock, a depth gauge and put the decompression tables in the pocket of the vest 😉

Diving Vest

Buoyancy compensation device.

The diving vest helps the diver to float on the surface and is used to control ascents and descents. It also provides neutral buoyancy which allows you to move effortlessly and consume less air.

Mask

Diving goggles or face mask.

Since the mask is your window to the underwater world, fit and comfort are the most important things when looking for a mask that really suits your needs. Don't forget that it should cover your nose and have tempered glass lenses.

Fins

Fins.

Fins are not made for speed, but are designed to propel the diver effortlessly. Fins should have a wide and fairly stiff blade to provide greater thrust and ease of movement.

Bottle and Regulator

Gas supply with two second stages.

In this case the BOE details the obligation to have 2 second stages that correctly supply the breathing gas contained in the bottle. The type of fittings for recreational diving is not specified, but they are for professional diving.

Pressure gauge

Gas supply pressure control device.

It is essential to carry a pressure gauge that tells us the pressure of our diving tank.

Knife

Cutting device.

The diving knife is a mandatory safety item that will be of great help in many situations, especially when we come across fishing lines, ropes or remains of nets and gear.

Whistle

Surface acoustic device.

If we don't want to blow our throats out, it's better to carry a whistle. In case of emergency, the whistle will be helpful to warn and attract attention. Nowadays, many vests incorporate a whistle in the design of the buckles or hooks.

Buoy

Surface beaconing device.

And finally, the surface buoy is incorporated as a mandatory safety element. And that, in our opinion, is a great success. A surface buoy is an element that not only increases the degree of buoyancy but is also essential to make the diver much more visible when he remains on the surface.

It will also be used to signal the diver's exit and stay on the surface.
