Gran Canaria is par excellence the most cosmopolitan island of the Canary Islands but just 25 km from the capital there is a small corner, Sardina; considered one of Top 10 places to dive from all over Spain.
This small and historic fishing refuge is framed in a large bay sheltered from the imposing Atlantic Ocean. Diving conditions are stable for almost all year, which allows diving even when it is impossible in other places on the island.
This coast is listed by the Natura 2000 Network as Special Conservation Area (ZEC) Macaronesian Biogeographic Region Marina.
The North Sardine Bay forms an incredible biodiversity refuge, where living beings of all kinds find the perfect ecosystem to develop all stages of their life.
We can find numerous kinds of invertebrates, fields of corals soft and hard, large schools of bicudas, grunts, sea bream, sardines, white guelder, bogas, fish as peculiar as seahorses, triggerfish, frogfish or swallowfish and specimens from the group of sharks and rays such as angel sharks, stingrays, manta rays, sea eagles and quaking sharks.
The North Sardine Bay, listed as Special Conservation Area (ZEC) by the Natura 2000 Network, is a refuge for marine biodiversity with ideal conditions for diving almost all year round. It is home to angel sharks, corals, schools of fish and unique species such as seahorses, frogfish and rays. Its ecological richness makes it a privileged destination to discover the marine life of the Macaronesian region.
